CSUC held its 35th Graduation Ceremony to confer degree and diploma awards on a total of 572 students from the departments of Theology, Business Studies, Computer Science and Communication Studies.
Three hundred and twenty five (325) students out of the total number were males. Thirty (30) students graduated with first class, 132 obtained second class upper division while 333 had second class lower division. Thirty seven (37) attained third class while 40 students were awarded pass.
Speaking on the theme “The Winning Attitude,” Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, CEO, KAMA Group of Companies who was also the Guest Speaker entreated the graduands to develop right attitudes in their personal and professional lives.
Dr. Agyekum Addo said attitude was critical to determining the success of a person, calling on graduands to demonstrate good attitudes in their chosen fields of endeavour.
Against this backdrop, Dr. Agyekum Addo bemoaned the nonexistence of schools and curricula which teach attitude in the country. “It is surprising to me that we have schools and curricula that teach governance, management, leadership coaching but no schools for attitude”, he lamented.
He congratulated the graduands and urged them to be hard working, determined and resolute in life as means of reaching higher heights.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Osei Safo-Kantanka, Bishop of the Kumasi Diocese, Methodist Church Ghana mentioned strict educational policies such as stringent admission requirements as a major challenge facing private universities in the country.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Safo-Kantanka who is also the Council Chairman of CSUC therefore called on the government and other regulatory bodies to adopt more flexible educational policies that would help private universities stand on their feet.
He also called for the reintroduction of the 4-year senior secondary programme to create enabling environment for private tertiary institutions and help raise the standard of education in the country. “…It’s obvious that the student performance is far far better under the 4-year programme than under the 3-year programme. That will also help private universities to enrol students with relatively good grades to make our work easier”, he suggested.
