Dr. Simon Osei Akwasi: Advancing Nursing Education and Research in Ghana

“From a Diploma in Nursing to a PhD in Nursing – My Call to Serve Humanity”

Whatsapp Image 2024 03 05 At 08.46.42Dr. Simon Akwasi Osei is a distinguished nurse educator, researcher, and clinician with 8 years of experience in patient-centered care. A member of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association since 2015 with dedicated advocacy for policy-driven nursing advancements. Currently a lecturer at Christian Service University, Kumasi, he teaches Medical-Surgical Nursing and Nursing Research while serving as the Academic Coordinator for the Nursing Department.

Dr. Osei holds a PhD in Nursing from Saint Louis University, Philippines, (2023), a Master’s in Adult Health Nursing from Adventist University of the Philippines, (2019) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Valley View University, Ghana, (2017). Additionally, he holds a diploma in Nursing from the Seventh Day Adventist Nursing Training College, Ghana, (2012). His passion for research is evident in his numerous peer-reviewed publications and international conference presentations. Notable ones include:

  • Paternal Care During Miscarriage: A Concept Analysis (Philippine Journal of Nursing, 2021)
  • Political Efficacy and Health Policy Advocacy Among Nurses as Mediated by Political Astuteness (Philippine Journal of Nurses, 2023)

Beyond academia, Dr. Osei has demonstrated strong clinical leadership, having served as a Nursing Officer at Methodist Medical Center, Ghana, (2014-2020), where he managed healthcare teams and coordinated patient care. His expertise also extends to online education, contributing to a virtual learning platform that has supported over 7,000 nursing students worldwide.

Specialized in Adult Health Nursing, his research interests include health policy advocacy, nursing politics, professional development, and simulation-based learning in nursing education. Committed to Community Service, he has led annual health education programmes for the elderly since 2019 in the Philippines.

At CSU, Dr. Osei remains dedicated to enhancing the nursing faculty, mentoring students, and advancing research, shaping the next generation of nursing professionals in Ghana and beyond.
