Prof. (Mrs.) Frances Owusu-Daaku has been inducted into office as the fourth President of CSUC.
In a colourful and inspiring investiture and induction ceremony held on September 14, 2013, the Chairman of CSUC Council, Rt. Rev. Prof. Osei Safo-Kantanka, decorated Prof. (Mrs.) Owusu-Daaku with the official robes of the President of CSUC, seated her thrice on a chair, and presented her with the University College’s Statutes – officially symbolizing the transfer of CSUC’s authority to the new President.
“I am humbled and honoured by the tremendous out-pouring of support for me at this investiture and induction ceremony. Indeed, this occasion also evokes a deep sense of responsibility that I bear to God Almighty, the founders of CSUC and to you all: a responsibility to serve and to provide visionary leadership in moving CSUC forward to become a world class Christian university,” Prof. (Mrs.) Owusu-Daaku told guests at the ceremony.
The new President outlined her vision for CSUC calling it a “four-point road-map” including:
- Deepening CSUC’s core values;
- Exploring avenues for sustainable funding;
- Quickening the pace for the granting of full university status or charter; and
- Strengthening CSUC’s global engagement.
Prof. (Mrs.) Owusu-Daaku expressed appreciation to former principals, former and current Trustees and Council members, former and current faculty and staff for their guidance in shaping the course of CSUC.
Prof. William Otoo Ellis, Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), noted in his address that as a Christian non-denominational evangelical institution, CSUC has a unique responsibility of training graduates who will exude moral uprightness, academic excellence and passion to serve and transform society.
Prof. Ellis, who was also the guest speaker, said in the midst of the numerous challenges that confront private universities including boosting enrolment, CSUC should not lose sight of its Christian values, and compromise on excellence and integrity. He added that CSUC should be a model of tertiary institution to provide the needed leadership in scholarship, training, research and community service.
The Vice Chancellor congratulated the new President and pledged KNUST’s support for her. He also called on the Board of Trustees, Council and staff to support the new President, and work together toward achieving the vision of CSUC.
The Governing Council of CSUC announced the appointment of Prof. (Mrs.) Owusu-Daaku as new President in January 2013, and she officially assumed office on July 15, 2013.
