7 Past students of the Christian Service University College, CSUC, Kumasi have been honoured with prestigious awards at the Maiden Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) Awards Night held on May 31, 2019.
According to the GJA President, Mr. Affail Monney, the ceremony was to recognize its members in the Region for their hard work and to urge them use their profession wisely to alleviate the ‘social ills’ of the Country to better the problems it is facing now.
On the awards, the only female among 23 Awardees, Miss Beatrice Spio Gabbrah of TV3, 2017 Alumna, was presented with the Best reporter in Health and HIV AIDS reporting.
3 others, 2016 Alumni including Mr. Kizito Cudjoe from the Business and Financial Times (BFT) Newspaper who received two separate awards for the Best reporter in Oil and Gas, and Tourism and Culture reporting. Nana Asenso Mensah from the Multi-media Group, Kumasi was awarded best investigative journalism reporter while the Best Rural Reporting and the Runner Up for TV Feature went to Mr. Nicholas Osei Wusu from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Kumasi.
Meanwhile, Mr. Benjamin Aidoo of TV3, 2011 Alumnus received the Best Sports Reporter and the Runner Up in Culture and Tourism reporting.
Moreover, two most recent Alumni, Mr. Erastus Asare Donkor from the Multi-Media Group, Kumasi received 3 separate awards for the Best in Human Rights, Women and Child reporting, Best Environmental reporting and the First Runner Up in Rural Reporting while Mr. Hafiz Tijani, Citi FM took the Runner Up position for Environmental and Sanitation Reporting.
Speaking at the Ceremony, the Current Chairman for the Media Commission (NMC), and a Faculty member of the Communication Department of CSUC, Prof. Boadu-Ayeboafo challenged media practitioners to take up media training programmes that promote ethical Journalism.
