The Christian Service University College (CSUC), Kumasi, on Monday, March 16, 2020 directed all students to leave
the campus with immediate effect. This was in direct response to the directives on COVID-19 by the President of the
Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on the night of Sunday, March 15, 2020.
The President on a nation-wide broadcast that night directed that all public gatherings including conferences, workshops,
funerals (except private burials of 25 persons or less), festivals, political rallies, sporting events and religious events
such as services in churches and mosques had been suspended for the next four weeks. Additionally, President
Akufo-Addo stated that “all Universities, Senior High Schools and basic schools (i.e. private and public)
will be closed Monday, 16th of March, 2020 till further notice”.
Before sending the students home, CSUC management called a meeting of both staff and students at 10am on Monday,
March 16. The meeting started with a short devotion by Rev. Anthony Boateng Agyenim, the Chaplain of the University
College, who encouraged the gathering of CSUC fraternity that God was in control even in this seemingly crisis period
by quoting scriptures to back his assertion. He also asked all to continue trusting the Lord for a breakthrough
whilst strengthening our relationship with our Maker.
Prof. Sam Afrane who is the President of CSUC, also on his part, encouraged the staff and students that all was not lost
but we would definitely overcome and smile at the storm. He then announced that a decision had been taken at the
management meeting held earlier in the morning to comply with the directives of the President of the Republic on
COVID-19 as follows:
1. All teaching and learning on campus suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
2. All students were to leave campus immediately.
3. Lecturers should intensify online teaching and learning.
4. Non-teaching staff only to continue reporting for work to carry out essential duties with flexible terms.
5. Hand sanitizers provided at various offices.
6. Veronica buckets with water and hand washing soap provided at the entrance and other vantage points to
facilitate frequent hand washing by those on campus.
At the end of the meeting, Mrs. Abigail Miezah, the Lead College Nurse on secondment from Suntreso Government Hospital,
Kumasi, educated the gathering on how best to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
