Christian Service University College, Kumasi (CSUC), on Friday, June 12, 2020, donated food
items to the Kumasi Central Prison and the Kumasi Children’s Home to support the upkeep of
the inmates to manage the impact of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic on them. The
food items valued at GH₵4,000.00 included bags of rice, beans, maize, gari, sugar, oranges,
cooking oil, baby-formula products and significant quantities of customized face masks.
The presentation was done by Prof. Sam Afrane, the President of the University College,
supported by other senior Officials which included Mrs. Cecelia Boakye Botwe (Senior
Assistant Registrar in charge of Human Resources and General Administration), Mr. Enoch
Baah (Institutional Advancement Director) and Rev. Anthony Boateng Agyenim (Chaplain of
the University College).
The President indicated that the benevolent act was in line with the Godly mandate to support
the poor and needy in times like this, whereby the Covid-19 pandemic has ravaged the world to
compound the limitation of basic needs for human survival. Presenting the items, he indicated
that “as a Christian Institution, CSUC deems it central to be able to present these items out of its
endowments to institutions that are in critical need to benefit their cause.” He further affirmed
the belief that in this era of global pandemic, such gestures attract generational blessings to the
giver.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Kumasi
Central Prison, ASP Diana Atta Danso, the
Deputy Public Relations Officer, expressed
sincere appreciation on behalf of the Director
General of Prisons, Regional Commander in
the person of DDP Samuel Owusu-Amponsah
and all officers and inmates of the Kumasi Central
Prison.
She assured the donor that they would put the items to good use to give meaning to the good
intentions of the University College. She, however, mentioned that the facility lacked adequate
Covid-19 personal protective equipment (PPEs)and pleaded for support from individuals,
religious bodies and corporate organizations.
On her part, Madam Cecilia Oppong (Senior Social Worker)
who received the items on behalf of the Kumasi Children’s Home,
said that the management of the Home were very grateful for
the gesture and asked for God’s blessings upon the University
College. Earlier, Mrs. Cecelia Botwe who made the donation
on behalf of CSUC to the Children’s Home noted, “the drive
is to contribute a widow’s mite to help these disadvantaged
children to develop to their full potential.”
CSUC is a Christian Institution of Higher Learning which is devoted to excellence in teaching,
learning and research to develop global leaders in many disciplines. Since 1974, the College has
trained over 7,000 professionals who are transforming society. The University College upholds
the Christian virtues of love and mutual support for one another, hence, the gesture.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Covid-19 statistics as at June 12, 2020 included total confirmed cases of
10,856, active cases of 6,887 and recoveries of 3,921 with 48 deaths. Ashanti Region ranked
second with case count of 1,905 out of the total confirmed cases for Ghana.
