The CSUC Council, the highest decision-making body of the University College has appointed Prof. Stephen Emmanuel Owusu as Vice President of CSUC, effective January 1, 2014.
Prof. Owusu holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from the University of Ghana, Legon; MSc. (Regional Planning) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi; and MPhil (Architecture) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Owusu was the Head of the Quality Assurance Unit of CSUC. He is an Associate Professor of Housing and a member of the Ghana Institute of Planners (GIP).
He served as a research fellow at KNUST for 35 years from 1975 to 2010. He has had tertiary level teaching experience in Ghana and Republic of Liberia, and research experience in Ghana, Liberia and the Turks and Caicos Islands of the British West Indies under the United Nations Volunteers Programme.
While at KNUST, he served as a coordinator/leader on a number of departmental research projects and international collaborative studies. He taught courses and supervised students’ research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and served as an examiner for both KNUST and University of Ghana, Legon.
Prof. Owusu held many administrative and leaderships positions at the department, faculty and college levels, and chaired a number of committees and boards within the management system of KNUST. He also served on inter-university committees in the public university system of Ghana.
At the national level, he served as the coordinator of the Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund (TALIF) based at the National Council for Tertiary Education (Ministry of Education), Accra from 2006 to 2008.
Through this role, Prof. Owusu acquired a very good knowledge of the teaching, research and administration of institution of high education, and the potentials of both the public and private universities and polytechnic institutions in Ghana.
The newly-appointed Vice President says he “hopes to play an effective role in the management team in promoting the identity of this University College in delivering in the three core areas of teaching, research and service to community, and working towards attaining a Presidential Charter”.
Prof. Owusu takes over from Dr. Samuel B. Adubofuor, whose tenure successfully ended in December, 2013.
