Christian Service University College (CSUC), Kumasi has led a Korean IT delegation to pay a courtesy visit to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Peter Anarfi-Mensah.
The aim of the visit was to officially introduce an 8-member team from the World Friends IT Volunteers from Korea, who are partnering the Department of Computer Science of CSUC to undertake some IT-related community impact projects.
The Korean IT volunteers who comprise two teams, namely HotSpot and Nda Gukunda will also train students and faculty of CSUC and other interested persons in IT to improve their knowledge and skills. Specific area of focus will include the development of a mobile app that relates to Internet safety.
The Ghana Internet Safety Foundation, Kumasi and the Afigya Kwabre East District Assembly in the Ashanti Region are other institutions partnering CSUC to undertake the project.
Receiving the delegation, the Ashanti Regional Minister welcomed the Korean volunteers to Ghana and commended CSUC for taking the initiative to improve ICT in the region.
Hon. Anarfi-Mensah expressed delight at the initiative, stating that “the move will enhance the bilateral relations between Ghana and Korea.”
The Minister called for greater collaboration with other foreign institutions and urged CSUC to take the opportunity to strengthen ties with academic and research-based institutions in Korea in the area of exchange programmes.
The World Friends IT Volunteers (KIV) program is organized and operated by the National Information Society Agency (NIA), Republic of Korea.
KIV provide the recipient countries and organizations with IT learning courses and other IT-related volunteering activities to meet the demand in sharing their IT knowledge and skills. KIV also participate in IT projects such as maintenance or development of IT systems or applications, while conducting co-projects with students and faculties of various universities.
