CSUC has launched an initiative dubbed ‘Student Aid Scheme’ to support needy students who are not able to complete the payment of their tuition fees. The Programme was launched by the Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso West and CSUC alumnus Honourable Kennedy Kankam as well as former CSUC Council member Mr. Seth Osafo, Ghana’s representative on Environment and Climate Change with the United Nations.
President of CSUC, Prof. Sam Afrane explained the purpose of the Scheme was to provide an outlet for supporting genuinely needy students to complete their tuition fee payment. He added that this was a move to fulfill its core mandate of ‘mutual support and care.’
The President revealed that many students were unable to write some of their examinations last semester due to dire financial challenges. Thus he added the Scheme was to enable such students to secure their futures by obtaining the requisite education and enable them contribute their quota to the development of the society.
Prof. Afrane added that to ensure the sustainability of the Scheme, 30% of the funds raised would be invested in a Scheme while 70 percent are disbursed to needy students.
A former member of Council of CSUC, Mr. Seth Osafo, who chaired the Programme, cited the story of a little girl who saved her cents to help build the Sunday School Department of her Church as a model to be followed. He added that every little offer would help. So he appealed to all gathered to support the Scheme financially.
MP for Nhyiaeso West and Co-Chair for the event Honourable Kennedy Kankam inspired the audience with his touching story on how he had to do delay his education for 12 years on completing Senior High School to do petty jobs in order to save to enable him have a university education at CSUC.
The Programme which was attended by over 200 people was graced by the attendance of industrialists, business people, entrepreneurs, ministers of the Christian gospel, staff, students and the CSUC community.
