The Centre for Business Development and Research of the Christian Service University College, CSUC, has organised its premier career fair on the theme: “Promotion of employable skills, the role of Universities in Ghana.”
In his welcome address, President of the University College Prof Sam Afrane, said the purpose of the event is an attempt by the University College to bridge the gap between industry and academia by providing a platform where industry leaders can impart relevant knowledge, competencies and demands of industry to students as a complement to classroom learning.
Mr. Atta Antwi, the National Director for Rural Enterprises Foundation who delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Minister for Trade and Industry, encouraged universities to roll out novel academic programmes such as the MSc Monitoring and Evaluation postgraduate programme being run by the CSUC. He touted the merits of the programme as providing the needed monitoring and evaluation officers needed in many sectors of the economy.
Mr. Atta Antwi also encouraged students to translate the knowledge acquired into starting entreprises such as agro business, bead-making and similar ventures to develop the economy.
Moderator for the Fair, Rev. Mark Kakraba-Ampeh also the Founder of Land Resource Management Centre, also advised students to exploit the opportunities around them because the essence of a university education is to teach them how to solve problems in the society.
Acting Director of the CSUC Centre for Business Development and Research, Dr. Nana Danso Boafo also encouraged students to interact with companies that had exhibited their products at the Fair to glean useful business insights from them.
The Fair was well attended by students, staff, entrepreneurs and the general public.
