Students of the CSUC School of Business (SoB) have presented practical and industry tailored remedies to reduce food inadequacy and improve quality.
According to Mr. Frederick Santuoh, a lecturer of the School and Coordinator of the Team Projects, the annual presentations made by the students are meant to challenge them to exploit various ways of rectifying various problems in the food industry.
The teams that made presentations of their business ideas include AgriCollect, Blockmena Farms, Modern Way Gari Processing Company, Family Health Mini Restaurant and Wakssen JJ.
According to members of AgriCollect Farms lead by team leader Kwabena Owusu Boateng, their business idea involved the creation of a virtual or online market that would serve to link farmers with market women and consumers so foodstuffdoes not go waste and that the quality of food is also preserved as farmers are offered competitive prices at the market.
The Blockmena Farms team led by Philip Bissah aimed at encouraging graduates to take up agriculture-related forms of employment such as processing corn into various products as a means of reducing graduate unemployment in the country.
Modern Way Gari Processing Company sought to improve the quality of gari by adding vitamin A extracts to it to aid in better vision as gari, as it is currently produced, has elements of hydrocyanic acid (negatively affects vision) within it explained Nkukpornu Kofi Dzifa.
From Lydia Baghr and her team, Family Health Mini Restaurant aimed at offering customers with nutritious meals that are hygienically prepared and served in a homely environment to improve family health.
According to Naomi Saah Kodom Wakssen JJ project group also sought to produce fresh yoghurt with blended coconuts, grapes and other fruit extracts to boost health and vitality and specifically to reduce incidents of asthma and diabetes in patients.
