The novel covid-19 pandemic which needs no introduction has led
to shocks in every sector of the economy, with the education sector
not an exception. In most tertiary institutions in Ghana, one
immediate concern is how the current situation has affected the
conduct of 2020/2021 academic year SRC elections. However,
the Prince-led administration of the Christian Service University
College SRC has brought an innovation to this year’s elections to
address this concern.
The Students’ Representative Council (SRC), President, Prince Agyemang Duah on June 1, 2020 submitted a proposal
outlining a new electoral calendar for the conduct of the SRC elections to Management of the institution which was
approved by the President of the University College, Prof. Sam K. Afrane. The proposal included aspirants being given
the opportunity to outdoor their manifesto through a virtual platform (Zoom). Accordingly, on Monday, June 22, 2020,
the Electoral Commission of the SRC held its novel virtual manifesto reading by Zoom video conferencing.
The manifesto reading saw the aspirants dazzling the audience of the video conferencing through their well-structured
policies to continue the good works of the Prince-led administration. The External Affairs aspirant, Owusu Francis,
was first to appear before the camera with his courageous delivery, followed by aspirants for the Hall President and Vice,
Demetrius Owusu-Ansah and Ina Owusu Ansah respectively, with their sharpness behind the camera. Other aspirants
for Women’s Commissioner, Esther Amakye; Public Relations Officer, Victory Nana Agyemang; Financial Secretary,
Fred Konadu Ofori; and General Secretary, Chevelle Baidoo; also took their turn with inspiring performances.
The moment of truth arrived for the Presidential aspirants and their running mates. Ebenezer Oppong and his running
mate Benjamin Antwi gave a top-notch performance with their policies followed by a thrilling performance by Richmond
Agyemang and his running mate, Salome Ofosu.
In the closing remarks, the Electoral Commission Chairman, Boniface Blewusi, thanked all stakeholders for making
the preliminary processes of the SRC elections successful and further encouraged all students to participate in the
main elections scheduled for Friday June 26, 2020.
