The President of the Christian Service University College (CSUC), Prof. Sam Afrane, has lauded the progress
made in the Virtual Library Project of the institution. The second phase of the project which takes off in August
2020, focuses on building CSUC’s own platform by student developers.
He disclosed this at a seminar organised by the Chapman Library on July 30, 2020, which brought participants
together from various parts of the country, for users to access the library’s online facilities.
In expressing his delight at the project, the President averred that the acquisition and dissemination of electronic
books via the University’s own platform is in line with its modernization programme. Also, “it underscores the
University’s proactive measures against unforeseen situations like the Covid-19 pandemic which has made
the promotion of the new digital era of learning more urgent”.
The institution’s continued modernization and digitisation programme is designed to meet the needs of students
and other beneficiaries of its services, as well as ensure greater reach to its users without disruptions. Such proactive
measures made it feasible to successfully complete the 2019/2020 academic year according to schedule, with
students completing the second semester examinations without any disruption, in spite of the global challenges
posed by the pandemic.
Delivering the keynote address at the seminar, the Acting University Librarian of the University of Ghana, Professor
Perpetua Dadzie, acknowledged the progress of the Christian Service University College, that online education is
no longer an option for educational institutions.
Mr. Emmanuel Laryea, the University’s Librarian summed up the novelty of the project as “the concept of gathering
books by a university on its own platform for its community of users”. The second phase of the project will see the
upload of approximately 10,000 books, to be accessed by all patrons of the library, from all facets of the globe,
including alumni, registered students, faculty, non-teaching staff, community members and the juvenile group.
The President was grateful to the library team for the innovation and promised the administration’s support for
the project.
The library has scheduled a series of seminars for students to come off during the month of August, to prepare them
for the usage of the Virtual Library in the coming semester.
