The mission of the Department of Management and General Studies, is to provide a sound Christian ethical environment for the tertiary level training of high caliber human resource with Christian values and principles for sustainable development and transformation of society
A knowledge-intensive approach to development is the only path for sustained development in Africa in an interwoven and interdependent global economy. Ghanaian Universities have, therefore, been called upon to pay more attention to quality and relevance of higher education to national economic growth and competitiveness. Moreover, the competitive employment market in knowledge-based economies attracts students who can demonstrate knowledge, professional competence and integrity.
Goal and Objectives
The goal of the Department of Management and General Studies programme is to develop morally upright students who are equipped with intellectual capital to enhance productivity and growth in organizations. In todays complex and dynamic environment, the school is aimed to train and develop Human Resource Professionals who are embedded with skills and talents that are not easily substitutable, and non-imitatable with integrity to gain organizational competitive advantage. The programme, therefore, adopts problem-solving skills, ethics and faith-based business models that combine contemporary concepts in businesses with a practical competency-based approach meant to develop and strengthen students knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The main objectives set for this programme is to:
- Prepare students to develop requisite knowledge, skills, enterprise, and attitudes for academic and professional human resource practice in the competitive job market.
- Produce high-level professionals and practitioners with a high sense of integrity with requisite capabilities of innovation, efficiency and productivity for the development of services for the transformation of the society.
- Enable students to acquire analytical capabilities, requisite knowledge and skills required to function effectively in the field of Human resource management in contemporary organizations and related areas.
- Equip students with skills to deal with the numerous contemporary issues in human resource management in the job setting.
- Produce Human resource managers who integrate knowledge with professional and moral ethics and demonstrate leadership in mobilising and managing human resources for organisational growth.
The Bachelor of Business Administration (Human resource option) is affiliated to University of Ghana.
Employment
Adequate consultation was made with relevant Professional bodies in dealing with the design of the content of the courses and the likely progression in the professional bodies membership upon completion. Students who graduate with the Human resource Management option have a lot of job opportunities in both public and private institutions. Our students who were already in employment do testify of the enhancement in their careers, and existing and future students will in no doubt follow suit.
Entry requirements for admission
Admission is open to all who qualify as follows:
- SSSCE credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects: three (3) electives plus, three (3) core- English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies. Aggregate score should not exceed 24.
- WASSCE credit passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects: three (3) electives plus, three (3) core- English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science or Social Studies; aggregate score not exceeding 36.
- GCE O and A Level holders: Candidates should have two (2) G. C. E. A Level passes and five (5) GCE O level credits including English Language and Mathematics. Applicants with three (3) A Levels passes, plus a pass in General Paper may be considered for level 200.
- Holders of ACCA, CIMA, ICA, ICM, ICSA, CIB and Diplomas (HNDS, DBS, RSA II & III, GBCE, ABCE etc.), in appropriate business courses will be considered. Their entry point will depend on the Certificate presented and the subject combinations
- Mature applicants must not be less than 27 years at the time of admission. They will be required to write and pass an entrance examination in English Language, Quantitative Techniques, and also attend a selection interview.
