Financial consultant, Dr. K. K. Sarpong has called for government assistance to private universities through resource pools such as GETFUND and other funding avenues.
According to Dr. Sarpong, the contribution of private universities is a pre-requisite for growth and development.
“Private universities are constrained by challenges such as decreased operational cost, public and foreign direct investments, high quality faculty an d an emphasis on arts rather than the sciences, factors which are a catapult for the growth of any society,” Dr. Sarpong indicated.
He explained that government’s lack of capacity to absorb all entry level tertiary students necessitates support for private universities. This is to ensure that the institutions do not wither but rather grow and produce industry relevant graduates to propel growth and development for the country.
Dr. Sarpong also urged private universities to liaise with industry through attachment programmes and produce industry relevant graduates to give back to society and fill critical industrial level needs of the country.
Dr. K. K. Sarpong said these during the 40th Congregation ceremony that graduated over 500 students in various courses of study.
