eLibrary USA, an electronic library resource that provides free access to more than 20 free professional and commercial databases, was introduced to staff of CSUC by Professor Steve Perry, the Information Resource Officer,IRO of the U.S Embassy in Accra,Ghana. The database as demonstrated can be accessed from anywhere in the world where internet is available. The databases available to users and thus elaborated upon include those of science and technology, current events, children’s education learning, documentaries and encyclopedia Britannica, among others.
Prof.Steve Perry also spoke extensively about the availability of E-brary (an online library). Also in his presentation, he said that anyone can request log-on information by registering for free at particular websites he referenced. He said the expected response time was not more than four working days. The username and password will not expire. Professor Emmanuel Frempong, the President of CSUC, in his welcome address, expressed profound gratitude to the IRO for availing such critical information and research tools to the community and expressed hope the skills and knowledge acquired will be used efficiently.
“The launch of elibrary USA and the outreach by our Information Resource Centre (IRC) is part of the US commitment to freedom of information. This training represents a renewed push to make information more available to the people of the academic community,” said Mrs.Gifty Awuku,an officer at the Information Resource Center.
