Financial consultant prescribes five-pronged approach to private universities growth
Renowned financial consultant Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong has prescribed five solutions to ensuring the growth of private universities. He said this during the 40th Congregation of CSUC that was themed ‘the future of private tertiary education in Ghana: Prospects and challenges.’
According to Dr. K. K. Sarpong, these were alliances, mergers, alumni fund-raising, state support and profit retention.
Dr. Sarpong indicated that alliances and mergers between private universities in terms of funding, facilities, faculty exchange, programmes and research endeavors would contribute to an expansion of their programmes and make them more attractive to prospective students and other national and international stakeholders.
He also called for the private universities to inculcate in their students the spirit of volunteerism and charity by rolling out compulsory modules that would attract credits in these concepts.
“An educated youth would ensure an educated work force which would inure to the public good and the ultimate development of society,” Dr. Sarpong explained.
In his address, CSUC President, Prof Afrane, corroborated Dr. Sarpong’s prescription by indicating that the university college is spearheading collaboration with industry through its Business Development Centre that sees to students’ attachment and entrepreneurship moves.
