Prof Peter Donkor, former Pro Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Director of the KNUST Office of Grants and Research has addressed CSUC faculty on writing collaborative research grant proposals.
Prof. Donkor espoused the relevance of research grants within the administrative structure of a university. He explained that they provide the much needed resources that bridge the gap in the implementation of innovative research within a university.
“Through research grants, a university can access resources that can serve to provide infrastructure such as classrooms, conference facilites, laboratories and a robust research oriented pedagogy,” Prof Donkor explained.
According to the Director of the KNUST Office of Grants and Research, the craft of writing research grant proposals positions universities strategically to make incisive contributions to academia and industry both locally and internationally.
“It boosts the profile of universities in that the publications churned out of the research raises the ranking of these universities in an increasingly tough and competitive world,” Prof. Donkor added.
Ms. Nadia Tagoe, the Administrator of the KNUST Research and Grants Office, took participants through the rudiments of research grants proposal writing, while Mrs Florence Aboh elaborated on sources of research funding. Working in small groups, the lecturers were guided by facilitators to try their hands on grant proposal writing.
Prof. Sam Afrane president of CSUC added that research grant proposals strengthen institutional and faculty development and project them on to the international arena. He therefore urged faculty to venture into research proposal writing.
A lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, Mrs. Abena Korang Abaitey said the workshop has been very beneficial and illuminating.
The workshop was organised by the CSUC as part of activities to prepare and equip its faculty to face the new academic year.
