CSUC in collaboration with Torch Bearers Diaspora Incorporation, spearheaded by the Africa Collegiate Entrepreneurs (ACE-GH) has launched an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre to nurse students’ ideas and equip them to create sustainable businesses.
The centre is also aimed at building a conscious culture of entrepreneurship among CSUC students and even faculty members. It intends to train about 500 students within the next three years – and also link them up with funding institutions that can assist them in growing their businesses.
Addressing students during the launch of the Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre, Mr. Frank Owusu-Karikari, Executive Director of African Collegiate Entrepreneurs asked students, particularly those at the tertiary level to take advantage of the existing and emerging opportunities to shape their entrepreneurial skills as they draw closer to facing the job market.
He said at the time graduate unemployment is on the rise, the best remedy to the situation is for students to develop culture that enables them to practically create sustainable businesses.
With the presence of the centre on CSUC campus, it is expected that the students will be groomed from their time of entry into the school until they graduate. It is believed this will better position students as they graduate into the job market with their nurtured businesses in their hands.
“Once they are able to determine their line of business from level 100, the centre will help develop their business plans, help them to undergo product prototype development of their business ideas, give them a hands-on approach and provide them with the necessary industrial attachments and mentorship”, Mr. Owusu-Karikari explained.
The President of CSUC, Prof. (Mrs.) Frances Owusu-Daaku said the introduction of the centre should alert students not to focus solely on academic knowledge, but also seek practical education to empower them for starting a sustainable business of their own.
She said the centre will expose students to challenges of industries, as well as create a link between students and industries.
The Coordinator for the Centre for Leadership and Professional Development (CLPD) at CSUC, Mrs. Theodora Oduro, said the establishment of the centre will have a huge impact on students and help to reduce graduate unemployment.
