Meet Sarfo-Adu (PhD): A renowned English Scholar and Educator

Dr. Kwasi Sarfo-Adu is a distinguished English language scholar, educator, and researcher with a deep passion for teaching and academic excellence. With over three (3) decades of experience in English language education, he has dedicated his career to shaping minds and advancing the study of English at various academic levels. Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer, and Head of the Department of English and Mathematics Education at Christian Service University (CSU), where he teaches and mentors students in key areas of English studies.

His academic journey spans from a Diploma in English (ATTC, Winneba, now University of Education, 1992) to a PhD in English (University of Cape Coast, 2018). He also holds a Master of Philosophy in English (2007) and a Bachelor of Arts in English (1999) from the same institution. His PhD thesis, On the Road to the Presidency: A Pragma-Rhetorical Analysis of the Campaign Speeches of John Agyekum Kufuor, explored the dynamics of challenger vs. incumbent presidential campaign discourse. His research interests include Presidential Campaign Rhetoric, Pragmatics, Syntax of English, Ghanaian English, and Generative Phonology.

Dr. Sarfo-Adu has extensive teaching experience across Basic, Secondary, and Tertiary education. He began teaching English at the senior secondary school level in 1992. Before joining CSU, he was with the Department of Liberal Studies, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), from 2008–2018.  He also taught English as a part-time lecturer at UCC Distance Education Programme and Valley View University. He is also an adjunct lecturer at the Department of English, KNUST (since 2019).

His excellence in teaching and academia has earned him several prestigious awards, including the Best Senior Member (Teaching) award at KsTU (2014/2015 Academic Year).

Dr. Sarfo-Adu has published in reputable journals and presented papers at international conferences. He has also contributed significantly to curriculum development, research commitees, and academic writing initiatives. He has supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and served as a Proofreader and Editor for Postgraduate Dissertations at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa (2018–2022).

He is a member of the Linguistics Association of Ghana (LAG). He is also a devoted Christian and worships at Maranatha Evangelistic Ministries, Adum-Kumasi, where he serves as an Elder, Church Secretary, and President of the Men’s Fellowship group.

At CSU, Dr Sarfo-Adu is committed to strengthening graduate research and championing the MPhil English and Mathematics Education Programmes.
