The Nursing and Midwifery Students Association (NAMSA) of the Christian Service University College has been revived after years of inactiveness. The august body which is an appendage of the Students Representative Council has been rejuvenated to offer academic, psychosocial, and professional support for members. The rejuvenation of the association became particularly pertinent owing to the fact that the nursing and midwifery population on campus was growing exponentially within the last academic year. The growth has had its attendant challenges hence the move to mitigate some of them. The association aims to support its members in the following areas:
- Offer academic support services for resit students
- Institute annual best student award schemes
- Offer tutorials and skills training
- Nursing and Midwifery Council licensure support
- Create entrepreneurship opportunities
- Provide health support services
- Organize entertainment programmes
- Acquire a bus to augment the current transport system of the University College.

The Registrar of CSUC
The Registrar of the Christian Service University College, Mr. Andrews Kingsley Doku, who spoke on behalf of the President and the Management, advised the NAMSA executives to clearly define and communicate the purpose of the association to the members; establish a culture of trust and respect to ensure peaceful co-existence; collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders; remain focused and innovative and finally, use the association to build network to increase student’s intake throughout the tenure of office.
The Dean of FHaS
The Dean of Faculty of Health and Applied Science, who doubles as the Head, of the Nursing and Midwifery Department, Dr. (Mrs.) Cynthia Pomaa Akuoko appreciated the effort of the executives and the entire members of the NAMSA for such a thoughtful idea to revive the association. She promised to offer the needed support to ensure that the objectives of the association were achieved. Dr. Akuoko charged the new executives to lead the association to emerge as the leading healthcare training provider in Ghana through innovation and technology.
The SRC President
The President of the SRC, H.E. Samuel Adjei congratulated the NAMSA executives for their ability to revive the group after years of inactivity. He assured the SRC group of their support and charged the executives to achieve memorable projects, encourage students to participate in NAMSA projects and remain open to ideas from members to ensure ownership of the association.
The Guest Speaker
Speaking on the theme: “Renewing our identity and potentials: Pioneering excellence in nursing and midwifery in Ghana”,
the guest speaker, Mr. Daniel Atta Tuffour, the Principal of Seventh Day Adventist Nursing and Midwifery Training College at Kwadaso and a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council observed that renewing identity implies a departure from the old way of doing things, especially in the negative sense. He also explained that to pioneer means to set new standards and trajectory that makes one unique. He focused his speech on the need to employ values such as discipline, humility, and professionalism to build time tested legacies. He expressed optimism that the context of the education of the NAMSA as a Christian institution, was unique, hence members must imbibe the values of the CSUC develop a professional character that will make them stand out in the market place.
Acceptance
The President of NAMSA, Kacey Bosompem, speaking on behalf of the new executives thanked the Management, Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, the SRC and the entire university community for the confidence reposed in them. She promised to offer a transformational leadership that will put the NAMSA in the highest pedestal so far as healthcare training in Ghana is concerned.
