Prof. Stephen Emmanuel Owusu has been appointed as the Head of the Quality Assurance Unit of CSUC. Prof. Owusu holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from University of Ghana; MSc. (Regional Planning) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi; and M.Phil. (Architecture), from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. He is an Associate Professor of Housing and a member of the Ghana Institute of Planners (GIP).
Prior to his appointment, Prof. Owusu was a member of the academic staff of KNUST from 1974 to 2010.
He has had teaching experience in Ghana and Republic of Liberia, and research experience in Ghana, Liberia and the Turks and Caicos Islands of the British West Indies under the United Nations Volunteers Programme. While at KNUST, he served as a co-ordinator/leader on a number of university departmental research projects and international collaborative studies. He has taught courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and served as an examiner for KNUST and University of Ghana.
Prof. Owusu has held many administrative and leadership positions at the department, faculty and college levels, and chaired a number of committees and boards within the management system of KNUST. He has also served on inter-university committees in the public university system of Ghana.
At the national level, he served as the co-ordinator of the Teaching and Learning Innovation Fund (TALIF) based at the National Council for Tertiary Education (Ministry of Education), Accra from 2006 to 2008. Through this role, Prof. Owusu has acquired a very good knowledge of the teaching and research capacities, the academic programmes, the requirements for the management of examinations and attachment/practical programmes, and the potentials of both the public and private universities and polytechnic institutions in Ghana.
Quality assurance unit is one of the critical management units within tertiary institutions. The unit ensures that an institution and its component departments meet the approved standards and norms for the tertiary sector, which together lead to the training of the requisite human resources for promoting and implementing the national development agenda.
“My presence at CSUC offers me the opportunity to contribute to establishing a quality assurance unit which will spearhead the institutional drive to improve teaching and learning, and thereby the quality of the knowledge production process and output (the graduates)”.
Prof. Owusu hopes to contribute effectively to ensure that the University College adequately prepares students academically and morally to play effective roles in the transformation and development of society.
