Professor Samuel Benjamin Owusu-Mintah joins CSU
– A Full Professor of Tourism and Hospitality, a Researcher and a Consultant who is passionate about mentoring future tourism professionals –
Prof. Samuel Benjamin Owusu-Mintah is a distinguished Professor of Tourism with over two decades experience in teaching, research, and consultancy. He holds a PhD and MPhil in Tourism from the University of Cape Coast, 2012 and 2001 respectively, and a BA (Hons.) in Geography and Sociology from the University of Ghana (1991). His doctoral dissertation was in the area of tourism education (See Owusu-Mintah, S.B. 2012, Tourism education and training in Ghana: An evaluation of the HND Tourism Curriculum of Cape Coast Polytechnic, PhD Thesis submitted to the University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana).
Prof. Owusu-Mintah has been appointed by the Christian Service University in August, 2024. He serves as the Head of the Department of Planning and Development, and oversees the New MA Event Management Programme of the University.
Prior to joining CSU, Prof. Owusu-Mintah held key academic and administrative roles, including Full Professor and Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor at Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU), an External Assessor and Supervisory roles for Masters, MPhil and PhD Thesis works. He has also lectured at Pan African University (PAULESI), University of Ibadan, and AAMUSTED, Kumasi-Ghana. He made history as the first Full Professor to be appointed in the Technical Universities in Ghana in 2017, and he is currently, the first Vice President of the Christian Professors International Association (CPIA) in Ghana.
His research interests cover environmental impact assessment, hospitality management, biodiversity conservation, sports tourism, and tourism education. He has over 20 refereed publications in credible journals. He has also presented several academic papers at international conferences, and authored a book (See: Owusu-Mintah, S. B. Beyond academia, Prof. Owusu-Mintah has contributed significantly to tourism industry and community development. He has held supervisory roles at significant tourism facilities including Cape Coast & Elmina Castles since 2002, and has also mentored student internships at leading hospitality establishments across Ghana.
Prof. Owusu-Mintah has also contributed to local governance, policy engagement and development initiatives through his Assembly membership and Chairmanship positions of the Development Planning Sub-Committee in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly. He is a member of the Hospitality and Tourism Educators Association of Ghana.
He is a devout Christian, a Deacon, and President of Men’s Ministry of the Assemblies of God Church. He is married with 5 adult children.
