The University College Council, the highest decision-making body, has appointed Rt. Rev. Prof Osei Safo-Kantanka as the new Council Chairman.
Prof. Safo-Kantanka is a man of many parts: He is a scholar, clergyman, crop scientist, motivational speaker and author. He earned his B.Sc (Hons) degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, in 1974; M.Sc from McGill University in 1977; Ph.D (McGill) 1980. He taught and also held various administrative positions at KNUST. He rose through the ranks to become Associate Professor in 1996 and then full Professor in 2003. Prof. Safo-Kantanka has about 40 publications in refereed journals and conference proceedings to his credit. He has attended many local and international conferences and workshops in Africa, USA, South America, Europe and Japan. He has also distinguished himself through many national and international awards.
Rt. Rev. Prof. Safo-Kantanka is the Bishop of Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church Ghana. He is married to Mrs. Mary Safo-Kantanka. They have six children and many dependents.
He takes over from Prof. Samuel Afrane, the former Council Chairman, who also served CSUC in other capacities for nearly 15 years. He will be remembered for his visionary leadership, strong Christian commitment and passion to serve.
